Summary

Talmage Farlow is a engaging look at the life and the

music of the great American jazz guitarist. Tal Farlow was a musical

pioneer who left the jazz scene in 1958 at the height of his acclaim, choosing

instead to paint sign and give music lessionsin the Atlantic coastal town of Sea

Bright. Soon after the film’s original release in 1981, Tal discovered

that his fans, old and young, had not forgotten him. Finding himself in demand

again, he ventured far from home in the ensuing years on recording dates,

international tours, and in club and concert appearances throughout North

America.

Since his death on July 25^th. 1998, Farlow’s

place among the great innovators of modern jazz seems well assured. Constantly

searching, refining, and experimenting, he was more than just a great musician.

His patient struggle to find a balance between artistic excellence and peace of

mind is the real story behind Talmage Farlow, a sensitive and fitting

tribute to this giant of a man.
